How it works

Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide with the sequence Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro. It was developed and studied primarily in Russia for anxiety-related conditions. FDA’s substance database records the chemical identity but explicitly warns that a UNII identifier does not imply regulatory review or approval.[1]

No Selank product is FDA-approved in the United States. Foreign use and a chemical identifier do not validate a U.S. compounded nasal spray, injectable vial, or online research product.

Benefits & side effects

A Russian comparative study enrolled 62 patients with generalized anxiety disorder or neurasthenia and compared Selank in 30 participants with medazepam in 32, reporting similar anxiolytic effects.[2] Another Russian comparative study enrolled 60 patients with phobic-anxiety or somatoform disorders and reported benefit relative to phenazepam.[3]

These reports provide a human signal, but their small size, limited accessible methods, active comparators rather than a clearly described placebo framework, regional publication, and lack of independent large replication prevent a reliable estimate of efficacy. They do not establish cognitive enhancement, stress resilience, depression treatment, neuroprotection, or benefit in healthy people.
