How it works

Sermorelin is a 29-amino-acid analogue of the active amino-terminal portion of human growth hormone-releasing hormone. It stimulates a functioning pituitary to release growth hormone rather than replacing growth hormone directly.

The United States previously approved sermorelin acetate as Geref for pediatric growth-hormone deficiency and diagnostic use. The approved product was withdrawn from the market at the applicant’s request in 2009; FDA later recorded that it was not withdrawn for safety or effectiveness reasons.[1][2]

Benefits & side effects

A review of the historical pediatric program reported that sermorelin could provoke growth-hormone release and that limited data showed increased height velocity in some prepubertal children with idiopathic growth-hormone deficiency. It also noted that final adult-height effects were undetermined and that direct comparison with somatropin was lacking.[4]

Those pediatric and diagnostic findings do not demonstrate better sleep, body composition, energy, muscle, recovery, cognition, or longevity in healthy adults. The popular anti-aging use has no comparable controlled outcome evidence.
